PICT Pune Admission Process

Admission to PICT Pune for B.Tech (Engineering) Programs can be secured by two ways:
Route No. 1: MHT-CET or JEE Main Exam and CAP
Route No. 2: Direct Admission under Institutional Quota

Let’s deep dive and understand each routes one-by-one.

MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Exam)

The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell), Maharashtra. It is one of the most important exams for students seeking admission to engineering (B.E./B.Tech), pharmacy, nursing, law and agriculture courses in government, aided, and unaided colleges across Maharashtra, including reputed institutes like PICT Pune.

For engineering admissions, MHT-CET evaluates a student’s abilities in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, based on the Maharashtra State Board syllabus, with some alignment to the national curriculum. The exam is conducted in online (computer-based) mode at designated centres across the country, and students are allotted seats through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) based on their CET percentile, category, and preferences.

JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination – Main)

JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination – Main) is a national-level engineering entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is one of the most important exams for students aspiring to pursue B.E./B.Tech programs at top engineering colleges across India, including NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and several reputed private and state-level institutes such as PICT Pune.

Along with MHT-CET, JEE Main scores are accepted for admission to engineering programs at PICT Pune through the Maharashtra Centralized Admission Process (CAP).

Candidates who missed or have low score in MHT-CET but appeared for JEE Main can use their JEE Main percentile to apply for PICT Pune during CAP counselling, but they will be fall in All India candidates and students from outside Maharashtra, even if they are from Maharashtra.

NSUT Direct Direct Admission in Management Quota

Due to PICT Pune’s strong academic reputation and excellent placement record, the cutoff percentiles for branches such as Computer Engineering, Information Technology, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering are typically high.

CAP (Centralized Admission Process)

The Centralized Admission Process (CAP) is the official and transparent counselling system conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra for admission to engineering (B.E./B.Tech) colleges across the state, including Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT), Pune. CAP is the primary admission route for students who qualify through MHT-CET or JEE Main.

Under the CAP system, eligible candidates must register online on the CET Cell portal, verify their documents, and fill in their preferred choices of colleges and branches. Based on factors such as entrance exams (MHT-CET and JEE Main) percentile, category, reservation norms, and availability of seats, students are allotted seats in multiple CAP rounds.

Steps to be followed in the CAP (Centralized Admission Process)

Step 1: Online Registration on CET Cell Portal
Candidates must register on the State CET Cell, Maharashtra official website after the declaration of MHT-CET or JEE Main results. During registration, students need to enter personal, academic, and entrance exam details accurately.

Step 2: Document Upload and Verification
After registration, candidates must upload the required documents such as mark sheets, entrance exam scorecards, domicile certificates, and category certificates (if applicable). Document verification is done either online (e-verification) or at designated Facilitation Centers (FCs).

Step 3: Release of Provisional and Final Merit List
Based on the verified documents and entrance exam scores, the CET Cell publishes a provisional merit list, allowing students to raise objections if needed. After addressing grievances, the final merit list is released, which determines the candidate’s rank for seat allotment.

Step 4: Filling and Confirmation of Option Form
Candidates must fill the online option form, selecting their preferred colleges and branches in order of priority. For admission to PICT Pune, students should carefully arrange choices such as Computer Engineering, IT, and E&TC based on their merit rank.

Step 5: Seat Allotment Through CAP Rounds
Seat allotment is conducted in multiple CAP rounds. Seats are allotted based on merit rank, category, preferences filled, and seat availability. Candidates can either accept and freeze, slide, or float the allotted seat as per their admission strategy.

Step 6: Reporting to the Allotted Institute
Candidates who are allotted a seat at PICT Pune must report to the institute within the given timeline. This includes document verification, fee payment, and admission confirmation at the college level.

Step 7: Participation in Further CAP or Spot Rounds (If required)
If a candidate does not secure a seat or wishes to upgrade, they may participate in subsequent CAP rounds or spot/Institute-level rounds, subject to eligibility and availability of seats.
