Before we go college by college, a two-minute system overview that will make everything else clearer.
Route 1 — MHT-CET CAP (State Seats: ~65% of seats at aided + private aided colleges):
The Maharashtra state Common Entrance Test, managed by the State CET Cell. Maharashtra residents compete for ~85% of seats in most engineering colleges through this process. Admission is through DTE Maharashtra’s centralized CAP rounds (three to four rounds, July–August). Government-aided institutions like VJTI admit almost entirely through this route.
Route 2 — JEE Main AIQ (~15% seats at government/aided colleges):
Government-aided institutes in Maharashtra (VJTI, ICT, SPCE) reserve 15% seats for candidates from across India under the All India Quota. JEE Main score determines eligibility. These seats are highly competitive — VJTI Computer Engineering through JEE AIQ requires a national rank in the low thousands.
Route 3 — Institute Level Seats / ILS (up to 20% of seats at private unaided colleges):
This is Maharashtra’s official mechanism for what is colloquially called “management quota” in engineering. Private unaided colleges — SPIT (partially), DJSCE, TSEC, KJ Somaiya — fill up to 20% of their seats through an institute-managed process. ILS requires a valid MHT-CET or JEE Main score (typically lower than regular CAP cutoffs) plus academic eligibility. The fee is higher than regular CAP-admitted seats but regulated by the FRC (Fee Regulatory Committee).
Route 4 — NPAT/NMIMS-CET (for MPSTME only):
Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering sits entirely outside Maharashtra’s CAP system. It is part of SVKM’s NMIMS Deemed University and uses its own entrance — NPAT (National Programme Aptitude Test). No MHT-CET percentile required for MPSTME. NRI and international seats use SAT/ACT scores.
Route 5 — CAP Vacancy/Spot Rounds (for unfilled seats after main CAP rounds):
After three to four CAP rounds, some seats remain vacant. These go to a Spot Vacancy Round — conducted by CAPAI for autonomous institutes (VJTI, SPIT, ICT) and by DTE for affiliated colleges. The spot round requires a valid MHT-CET score. It is not “direct admission” and it is not management quota. It is a final merit-based allocation of leftover seats.

VJTI Mumbai: The Institution That Attracts the Most Wrong Searches

The MHT-CET CSE cutoff at VJTI General category: 99.85+ percentile. That’s in the top 0.15% of MHT-CET writers. For IT and other branches, the cutoffs are marginally lower but remain among the highest in Maharashtra.
VJTI management quota seats: Zero. None. Not available.
This is not ambiguous. VJTI’s official admissions website states it explicitly. As a government-aided institution, VJTI is not permitted to fill seats through institute-level management quota. Every seat at VJTI goes through the CAPAI (Centralised Admission Process for Autonomous Institutes) or the JEE Main AIQ process.

SPIT Mumbai: The Andheri Powerhouse With ILS Seats
