PES University is a privately funded university founded in the year 1988 as PESIT (PES Institute of Technology), essentially with the aim of offering the best education globally and encouraging innovation and research among its students. PES University is involved in diverse fields of education such as Engineering, Management, Law, Economics, Commerce, Architecture, Design, Psychology, Arts, and Medicine and Life Sciences.

PES University is managed by People’s Education Society, which was established in 1973 in a gym it rented in Bangalore, with just 40 students. PES University presently manages 45 educational courses in Karnataka, as well as in Andhra Pradesh, with a total of 18,000 students.

PES University began its operation with the establishment of PESIT in 1988 as the first engineering college under the PES Group of Institutions. The institution was affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belagavi, but later became an autonomous institution under VTU.

Over the years, it has developed into a prestigious institution renowned for its rigorous academics and industry-focused education, and then in the year 2013, PESIT acquired the university status with a renaming of PES University.
